The Black Swamp Cemetery is located
approximately one-half mile south of Garnett, South Carolina off SC Route 119.
The church no longer exists, having burned in 1968. The cemetery is now
associated with St. John's Methodist Church, which was originally in Brighton
before being moved to its present location in Garnett in the1920s. The plaque
at the left of the gate reads: Black Swamp Methodist Church and Cemetery -
Church Built in 1790. The iron fence surrounding the cemetery was dedicated in
1942 as the gift of Benjamin Martin, Jr. in memory of his parents Mr. and Mrs.
Benjamin Martin. |
